It contains some of North America’s grandest scenery and wildest places. Within relatively short distances, the route covers a wide range of eco-systems- from boreal forest to coastal rainforest to immense ice fields. Starting in Skagway, you'll travel to Whitehorse, Haines Junction (2-night option) and Haines. You will drive the scenic South Klondike Highway, the famous Alaska Highway, and the Haines Road. Flightseeing, rafting, fishing and hiking options are available in Haines Junction. If you want to enjoy some of these options, choose the 5-night tour. If reserved from Mid-August to Mid-October, you will view Fall colors, as you pass boreal forests. There are untouched wilderness alpine vistas, immense ice fields, many sparkling lakes, a desert and a coastal rainforest. You’ll make numerous stops along the way for photos and exploring time. What you’ll do: *Beginning in Skagway, where you may enjoy bike rides, flight-seeing over Glacier National Park and/or historic hiking tours on the Chilkoot Trail. You might choose to partake a historic train ride over White Pass, ($85ea. option), when heading North out of town. We pick you up in Fraser after your train ride. The train ride is available from May 1st till the end of September. You'll spend a night in the capital city of the Yukon, Whitehorse where there are delights to experience. You may choose to explore a museum, visit the Klondike sternwheeler, view the world's longest wooden fish ladder, soak in Takhini Hot Springs or visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. While staying one or two nights in Haines Junction, there's time to enjoy a flight sees over Kluane National Park, ($285ea option), visit a traditional Native fishing village, and/or take hikes into Kluane National Park, (short or long, it’s up to you). Your last night, you will stay near the Bald Eagle Capital of the World, (Haines), with a possible viewing of Grizzlies from the deck of your room, as they dine on salmon. Eagle sightings reach their peak in mid-November, when up to 4,000 bald eagles feast on the annual salmon run; therefore, a trip to Haines in late October is my favorite!
